  1. 4.  Maj George Kirby was born about 1876 in Kensington, London; died on 2 Oct 1960 in Harry Squires Memorial Hostel for the elderly, Taranaki Street, Wellington, New Zealand.

    Notes:

    He was in the Ceylon Volunteer Rifles and actually enlisted in Australia, and ended up with the Light Horse of Gallipoli fame and also served on Western Front, but was Court Martialled for using regiment funds (probably for gambling).

    He married Miriam Lavinia Bowker in 1951 (folio 05915). She had previously married Walter William Bowker in 1924 (folio 3443) and as Miriam Lavinia Greenwood had married Benjamin Percy Lawn in 1908 (folio 4640).
    She had divorced Walter Bowker in 1929, and Benjamin Lawn married again in 1923.
    Miriam Lavinia Kirby died in Auckland in 1966.
