    Notes:

    E mail (19th April 2003) from Margaret Cameron, Box 621, Long Sault,Ontario KOC 1PO

"Margaret MacMillan b 1813, who was married to Duncan Grant, was thesister to my gtgt grandmother, Mary MacMillan, b. 1794, who was marriedto Duncan Ban MacMillan (Glennevis/Glenpean), born 1783, Glennevis, died1861, Lot 23 south half, Concession 3, Finch Township Margaret andDuncan Grant lived on a farm very close to her sister, Mary my gtgt)..

Duncan Grant was a witness to the Will of my gtgt, Duncan Ban MacMillan, who died in 1861. There are tombstones in the MacMillan graveyard(Laughing John's), Lot 19, Concession 1, Finch Township, in the uppernortheast side of cemetery, for Margaret Grant and Duncan Grant. Theywere the parents of Christy Grant who married William McElheran.(ChristyGrant was his second wife).

There were many different branches of the Grants which settled inStormont/Glengarry. The Grant family which settled in Moose Creek,Stormont County, were of UEL origin.

From what I know, the Grant family that settled in Finch Township(Duncan)migrated in the Glenpean migration c 1802, landing at Montreal. Thefollowing is a list of a few of the Grant families which mig. 1802:

Alex. Grant(Achnaconern), wife, John, four children
    Donald Grant(Dalcattaig) and wife
Mary Grant (Duldregan)( Flory, Isabella: John and Anne Grant(Livisie) onechild.

Glenmorriston was the location from which many of the Grantfamilies(SDand G) migrated.

I am sorry that I am unable to be of much help to you in regard to DuncanGrant, but the Abstract for Duncan Grant's property is filed in a ledgerat the Registry Office, Sydney Street, Cornwall, Ontario, and, usually, aWill(if existant) will be recorded on the property record(Abstract) IfDuncan Grant belonged to the Moose Creek line, then he might have beenUEL.

There was also a Grant family that lived on the fourth concession ofRoxborough (south of Moose Creek) but I do not know if there was arelationship of this particular line to Duncan's family. I asked adescendant of the Rox. line(4th) but she was not sure of theinterrelationships (if any) of the different lines of Grants. Mygrandmother, Catharine Sutherland Cameron (1854-1949) was teacher to Mr.Donald Grant (in the 4th school c 1870s) who had lived on the farm on thefourth concession of Roxborough, south of Moose Creek, and when I wasquite young I asked him about the interrelationships (if any) of theGrant lines, but was unable to sort the lines out. Donald Grant was thegrandfather to my friend (who also descends from my Cameron line throughher mother). These families were very intermixed.

Duncan + Margaret Macmillan. Margaret (daughter of Angus (of Callich & 20-1 & 14-3 Finch) Macmillan and Margaret (of Corriebheg) Macmaster) was born in 1813; died on 22 Nov 1880. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

    Notes:

"Margaret(1813-1880) married Duncan Grant(he was witness to my gt gtgrandfather's Will-Duncan Ban MacMillan). "Angus of Callich's brother, Donald, is buried in Kilmallie graveyardnear Ft. William Scotland, d. c 1807 - Tacksman of Callich - ontombstone). He is also mentioned in Byegone Lochaber by SomerledMacMillan."

Angus MacMillan of Callich(my gtgtgt), Lot 20-1, Finch was a cousin toJohn MacMillan(my gtgtgt) Lot 22-1 Finch, and his brother, AlexanderMacMillan, Lot 16-2 Finch. Angus of Callich(my gtgtgt) also owned Lot 14,Conc. 3 Finch (orig. owned by Allan Glenpean< my gtgtgtgt)and had asawmill, along with his son, Alexander.
"Angus MacMillan of Callich and his son Alexander bought Lot 22-1 Finch, and, as well, Angus of Callich owned land on the third concession ofFinch which he had bought from the Glenpean family(i.e. - Lot 14-3 wherehe operated a sawmill, etc.)."

Because of the similarity of names the local gen./ authors have had a'hard' time sorting out these families. "

Some of the information is also from a list produced by A MacMillan(Based on family papers). From Margaret Cameron, Box 621, Long Sault,Ontario KOC 1PO

"Angus of Callich had five daughters who married MacMillans. Thefollowing is a list of his children from family papers(AK, JG. etc.)

    a) Mary (b 1794 Achnacarry, Scotland) married Duncan Ban MacMillan(b.Glennevis 1783, d. 1861 Finch Lot 23-3). They were my gtgt grandparents, through their daughter, Margaret b. 1832, who married Joseph R.Sutherland, b. St. Raphaels Mar. 1822, d. 1876, settled Lot 38, Conc. 5,Roxborough, parents of my grandmother, Catharine Sutherland Cameron).
    b) Marjory married to Hugh (Lochiel/Corriebuie) MacMillan
    c) Marion married Hugh(Ewen)(Cnoc/Kronk) MacMillan(in some family papersI have him stated as 'John the 'kronk' MacMillan(meaning on the hill).
    c) Catharine married Alex (Lochiel/Corriebuie) MacMillan
    d) Jane(?) m. MacMillan
    e) Margaret married Duncan Grant
    f) Katie(Kateline?) married John MacLean(our g grandfather---from papersby A.K. MacMillan( son of Johnny John MacMIllan(Lot 20-3 Finch) who hadthe store in Finch Village )
g)** JOHN MACMILLAN married daughter of Donald Cameron(Clunes) andNancy(Ann) Cameron(Glenloy)[ who settled on Lot 21-4 Finch(CameronSchool)].
(In reference to the first name of John MacMillan's wife, I lost myfather's papers wherein the names of the 'two daughters' who marriedMacMillans were listed, so I am not sure if John's wife was Mary/orCatharine...m cameron)
    h) Alexander
    i) Ewen

The above listing of the children of Angus MacMillan of Callich was takenfrom family notes.

The one daughter(and I think two of the daughters) married in to the'Kronk' family (John of/or Hugh of) MacMillans and I think the MacRaefamly which lived just to the west end of the Village of Avonmoredescended from this line(from Angus of Callich).. "
