I am very interested in contacting descendents of Alex MacLeod, whoMargaret Cameron describes below:
"the late Alex MacLeod, a lawyer in Winnipeg (nephew of Hector MacLean)wrote to my mother (Hope MacLean Cameron) in 1937 which outlined therelationship between our families. He and my grandfather, George LachlanMacLean (1863-1937) had been cousins as well as friends."

From Margaret Cameron, Box 621, Long Sault, Ontario KOC 1PO
    margaret077@sympatico.ca

"Lachlan had two sisters, as well as the two brothers::
    1) Flora (b 1818
    2) Janet (b 1835
    -
I don't know where the descendants of Lachlan's siblings are. Accordingto the Ontario census 1851, John was listed as being eight years of age,but sometimes the census can be 'out' by one or two years. He is listedas being born in Scotland(c 1842/3). "

    (Research):Michael 'Mullman' asks:
The following are the official *baptism* dates, and because Lachlan's mother was Marion(Sarah), then Lachlan can only be the s/o Allan/Marion McLean i.e. baptised 4 Sep 1825 Kilninian parish (at Tostary, which is close to Torloisk). Lachlan at 5441 was baptised Torloisk, but mother is Christina (possibly another cousin).

I'd also appreciate knowing how Lachlan is known to be a cousin of Hector. I have Hector bap 21 Jun 1823 Kilninian, s/o Duncan/Janet McLean. Because there are four McLeans in the two marriages, it makes things very difficult to determine exactly HOW they are cousins. At present my guesstimate is that Hector's father Duncan and Allan's mother Marion/Sarah are siblings.

    Margaret Cameron writes:
My gt Grandfather, Lachlan MacLean (b. Aug. 8 1826 Mull) Finch, Ontario, and his wife, Sarah Waldorf, had a son, Edgar, who moved to Fulton, New York, and had a farm.I think he had a son named Robert. Some descendants of my granduncle Edgar MacLean lived /near/in Buffalo, N.Y.My gt grandfather, Lachlan MacLean, was 'connected' to the MacLean family which originally settled in Perth, Ontario.
Margaret suggests that the family descends from the Macleans of Ardgour.

Lachlan + Sarah Ann (Sally) Waldorf. Sarah (daughter of George Waldorf and Sarah Ann Schieks) was born in 1836 in Osnabruck Township; died on 1 Mar 1900 in Or 1902; was buried in Finch Cemetery, Stormont County, Ontario. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

  2. 5.  Sarah Ann (Sally) Waldorf was born in 1836 in Osnabruck Township (daughter of George Waldorf and Sarah Ann Schieks); died on 1 Mar 1900 in Or 1902; was buried in Finch Cemetery, Stormont County, Ontario.

    Notes:

"Lachlan MacLean (Aug. 8, 1826-1904) was married to Sarah Ann(Sally)Waldorf ( 1836-Mar. 1 1900). She descended from Anton Waldorff(1700-1777) and his wife, Maria Kehl(1702-1768) who are buried in theFairmont Presbyterian Church cemetery in New Jersey (I think that'sTewkesbury Township)- tombstone.

Anton's son, Martin Waldorf, was the only one in the Waldorf family tofight for the British during the American Revolution in the Indian Dept.under Col. Claus.
Martin's son, Martin, Jr.(Sally Ann's grandfather) was bapt. in TrinityLutheran Church, Stone Arabia, New York, Feb. 1772. The family fled tothe St Lawrence after martin Sr. was killed and settled in OsnabruckTownship(south of Finch). The two brothers, Anton and Engelburtus, migrated from Germany in the early 1700s. There is a Waldorf family *(abranch) still living in Munich. (I think all the Waldorfs(and variousspellings)living in the states are connected very distantly). "
From Margaret Cameron, Long Sault, Ontario

    Notes:

"My one gt grandmother, Margaret Irving Smith (married to ChristopherJohnstone (1828-1911), son of James, Dr. William's brother,) grew up inMoffat, Dumfries.
