  1. 2.  James (14th Earl of Morton) Douglas was born in 1709 (son of George (13th Earl of Morton) Douglas and Frances Adderley); died on 12 Oct 1768 in Chiswick.

    Notes:

    James Douglas, 14th Earl of Morton KT FRS (1702 - October 12, 1768), was a Scottish representative peer who became president of the Royal Society (24 March 1764), and was a distinguished patron of science, and particularly of astronomy.

    He graduated MA from King's College, Cambridge in 1722.[1] In 1746 he visited France, and was imprisoned in the Bastille, probably as a Jacobite.

    He was living in Chiswick at the time of his death, and his widow was still payong rated there in 1775. 'Douglas conveyed the mansion with 7 a. of garden to Robert Stevenson in 1783 and the site of Turret House to William Cock, a market gardener, in 1791.'

    Notes:

    DNA testing seems to indicate that Domini is not a son of the 13th earl.

    Said to have had three sons

    Previously recorded as being 'of Halsgow', but this appears to have been a transcript error.

    (Research):Possibly son of Adderley, Chaplain of Chatham Dockyard, 1649-51 Adderly was born in between 1638 and 1648.
    William married Perhaps(?!) Sarah Adderly.
    Perhaps (!!) was born circa 1640.
    They had one daughter: Frances Douglas (born Adderly).
    ??William passed away circa 1702, at age 64.
    William Adderley, Chaplain of Chatham Dockyard, 1649-51.
    William Adderley, an Independent minister, was invited by fifty-one Chatham parishioners to take his place. Shortly afterwards Adderley became embroiled in a personal, political and religious feud against the Pett family, resulting in his dismissal as sea chaplain in 1654.

    There was a 1670 court case Richard Hampden.Vs William Adderley and others relating to property in Linton, Kent.
    And a dispute over land in 1678

    William Adderley, born 10th May 1614, son of William Adderely, of Vallance, Essex, attended John's College, Oxford. He obtained a BA from Magdalen Hall 29th January 1635.
    Probably naval chaplan, 1644; preacher of Charterhouse, 1645; ministry to seamen, 1650, dismissed 29th March 1654; lecturer St Sepulchres, london, 1662; left money in a will of 1663. His widow was left money in a will of 1703.

    He was a substantial landowner in Nottinghamshire, owning the Manor of Tuxford, which had been in the family for several generations by this time.Through this marriage, the estates at Wallingwells and Buerly (Pately Bridge) were added to Thomas's already considerable holdings.
