6. | Daniel McDonald was born in 1723 in Inverness, Scotland (son of Donald McDonald and Mary ???); died in 1797 in Fredericksburg Township, South Carolina. Notes:
Some historians claim the name McDaniel and McDonald were
interchangeable. The documents relating to this Daniel McDonald indicate
this was true. In some instances, Daniel McDonald signs legibly as
"McDonald" and again as "McDaniel". He signed his will as "McDaniel", but
refers in it to his eldest son as "McDonald". His will is in the
Charleston County Will Book dated 24 September, 1777.
"Katherine Fisher m. Thomas Steel and the Steels came to South Carolina
about 1745. Their first neighbor was Daniel McDonald, a Scotchman, who
had lived some fifteen or twenty years in his present home among the
indians in entire seclusion from any of the white race. McDonald was the
first pioneer into that district of the country. He amassed considerable
wealth and reared a large family of sons and daughters."
