    Notes:

Burke's Landed Gentry (1970?) under "Macdonald of Clanranald" say Allan(2nd Chief of Clanranald) MacDonald (d Aft. 1428) married a "4th daughterof Sir John Stewart of Invermeath, and 3rd of Lorn, and sister of DugalStewart, 1st of Appin". However most sources seem to suggest that Dugalhad no full sisters. Burke's Peerage 106th Ed (p 1987) shows 3rd Lord ofLorn was Walter Stewart 1st of Invermeath, but he is shown as dying c1489.
So John (Sir) (of Innermeath & Lord of Lorn) Stewart (d April 26, 1421)seems a little more likely to be the father, although still veryquestionable.

Note: Previously shown as sister of Dugal (1st Chief of Stewart of Appin)Stewart

    From Doug Hickling
"You also list a daughter of John of Lorn as "daughter Maclaren," whomarried "Allan (2nd Chief of Clanranald) Macdonald." I doubt that thereis any authority supporting the existence of this alleged daughter.Certainly, the accounts of the deathbed marriage of John and the motherof his illegitimate son Dugal make no mention of there also having been adaughter.

The Munros, in their ACTS OF THE LORDS OF THE ISLES, at 280, say that themother of Roderick, the son of Allan, was "a daughter of Stewart ofAppin," and they cite as authority THE BOOK OF CLANRANALD, at 169. Thismanuscript is found in volume 2 of RELIQUIAE CELTICAE, edited byAlexander Macbain (1894). Chronology seems to rule out either John (ofLorn) Stewart or a Stewart of Appin as the father-in-law of Allan, 2ndChief of Clanranald, Macdonald. The most likely birth year cited forJohn of Lorn is about 1400. According to the Munros, at 287, based onTHE BOOK OF CLANRANALD, Allan died "at Castle Tioram in 1419." In 1419,John of Lorn was still not of age and could not have been the father of adaughter old enough to have married Allan by 1419, the year of hisdeath. Since the Stewarts of Appin are descended from John (of Lorn)Stewart's son, it is even more unlikely that any woman of that familywould have been old enough to have married the 2nd chief of Clanranald.
