Generation: 1

  1. 1.  Anne Foulis (daughter of Robert (of Leadhills) Foulis); and died.

    Notes:

    Aileen Foulis writes:
"In the Retours of the Heirs of Scotland and there are several entriesfor the Hopes.
I warn you though, in case you haven't met the Retours, that it is in theoriginal Scottish legal Latin! (Groan! I forgot my Latin the day after mylast exam. and that was 20 years ago!):-)
Anna inherited property from her sister Elizabeth on December 30 1637.
Father definitely Robert, an advocate, who died probably late 1632, sincethe sisters inherited together lands and mineral rights (I think) 8January 1633. No husbands mentioned for either and no sign of theirmother.
Leadhills as a name doesn't appear, funnily enough. The estate name musthave stuck later to the area and town.
Should be more to come in that line -if I ever do get hold of the Lanark
    Commissary Records, that is!:-) "

There are a few gaps in the early years of the Retours, so the only Hopeof Hopetoun I found was Charles. There's an Alexander of Carse, son ofAlexander of Carse in Linlithgow and Stirling and a William, son ofThomas, son of Thomas, all of Craighall in Fife and a few others, nonevery much except for Margaret Erskine, nee Hope who left her son a realfortune in land.

I'll put in the Anna Foulis entry in the original so you can see what its
    like.

Craigiehall looks a lot like Craighall, but it is in the wrong county and
associated with different names. Could cause problems though, ifresearchers are a bit careless and try to glue them together anyway.:-/
