    Notes:

    Lady Catherine Henrietta Dicken was a wealthy young woman born in India during the British Raj. Catherine lived in perpetual luxury and wealth: she met her husband Henry Ulick Brown in India where they spent twenty extravagant years living together. She did not move to Westport House or become the 5th Marchioness of Sligo until she was 66 years of age: her husband inherited the title and the estate in 1903. Catherine was adored by the people of Westport due to her kindness and hospitality. She is by far the most exotic of the three 'Ladies of Sligo'.

    William Stephens Dicken was in the Department of the Inspector-General, Indian Medical Service; Bengal Medical Service 1829-61; service in Oudh and at Lucknow as Chief Medical Officer with the Nepalese Contingent; He served as Surgeon in the Bengal Medical Service from 1829-1861 and was involved in the recapture of Gorakhpur and the final siege and capture of Lucknow during the Indian Mutiny, 1857-1858.

    1833, Feb. 20. At Falmouth, aged 63, Capt. Joseph Lamb Popham, R.N. father of the present High Sheriff of Cornwall. He was a half-brother of the late Rear-Adm. Sir Home Popham, K.C.B. He was made a Lieut. 1794, Commander 1797, and posted 1800. He married July 17, 1801, Miss Wallis, of Trevarno, near Helston. ("G.M.," 284.)

  3. 6.  Captain Joseph Leborne Popham, RN was born in 1770 in Chichester, England (son of Joseph Popham and Catherine Lamb); died in 1833.

    Notes:

    The son of Joseph Popham, consul at Tetuan from 1728, and his second wife Catherine Lamb. He was half brother of the celebrated naval commander Sir Home Riggs Popham. Born in Falmouth, one of twenty-one children, in 1794 he was made a Lieutenant in the Royal Navy and promoted Captain in 1797. On 17th July 1801 he married Phillippa Wallis, of Trevarno, near Helston in Cornwall by whom he had six children. His eldest son, Christopher Wallace Popham of Antron Lodge, was High Sheriff of Cornwall in 1833. His youngest daughter, Catherine Lamb Popham, married William Stephens Dicken, Deputy Inspector General of Hospitals, Bengal.

    (Research):November 19th, 1792, a lease was granted by the feoffees, to
    Henry Venn, of Payhembury, in the County of Devon, tanner, in
    consideration of a fine of ?26 5s., for a term of 99 years, if Charlotte,
    daughter of the said Henry Venn, aged about twelve years, should so
    long live, the said term to commence immediately on the decease of
    Peter Carthew, the elder, and Mary, daughter of the said Henry
    Wenn, paying a clear yearly rent of ?6. The premises were described
    in this lease, in nearly the same terms as the foregoing one, with the
    addition that the premises were bounded on the south by lands late of
    George Moffield, but now of Mary Worth, widow; and on the north
    by lands late of William Colman, Esq., but now of Joseph Carter, and
    late in the possession of Thomas Bidgood.

    The property charged with this annuity consists of a house and a few acres of land at Payhembury, now in the possession of Mr. Henry Cook Venn. It formerly belonged to two brothers, of the name of Patch, ??Son of the Rev and Mary?

    The Missionary Secretariat of Henry Venn; Prebendary of St. Paul's, and Honorary Secretary of the Church Missionary ... Mr. Venn inclined to the belief that William Venn was a son of a certain Richard Venn of Payhembury, in Devonshire, ...This would link the more prominent Henry Venns to 'our' Henry.

    I have found two Henry Venns who were baptised in Payhemburyb ut these would make 'our' Henry 102 at death.:

    It appears that he a Deed of Agreement dated 1st March 1739 relating to an intention to marry his cousin Mary Riggs, daughter of Mrs Anne Riggs, of Riggsdale. There were apparently five sons.

    It is claimed that he had more than 20 children, though this is unsupported by any evidence found.

    Joseph married Catherine Lamb in 1763. Catherine (daughter of Joseph Lamb) was born in 1735; died in 1818 in Kew. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]
