    Notes:

    M.P. for Rosshire in 1747 and 1754

Kenneth Mackenzie, commonly called Lord Fortrose, was buried in the south aisle of the nave of Westminster Abbey on 22nd October 1761 aged 43 (near Thomas Sprat's monument). He has no memorial or marker. In the burial register and on his coffin plate just his initials K.M.L.F are given.

He was the only son of William, 5th Earl of Seaforth in the peerage of Scotland (who was attainted on account of his connection with the Jacobite rising of 1715) and his wife Mary, daughter of Nicholas Kennet. He was educated partly in France under the Jesuits and became Member of Parliament for Inverness and Ross-shire in Scotland. On 11th September 1741 he married Lady Mary Stewart, daughter of Alexander, 6th Earl of Galloway. Their only son Kenneth was subsequently created Viscount Fortrose and Earl of Seaforth in the peerage of Ireland but he died without a son in 1781 and the titles became extinct. They had six daughters, the youngest of whom, Euphemia, married William Stewart. Their son John Stewart was buried in the Abbey and has a memorial.

Grandson and heir of Nicholas Kennett, late of Coxhoe, esq.
Son and heir of the Hon. William MacKenzie, deceased, sometimes Marquess and othertimes Earl of Seaforth, and Mary his wife, also deceased, daughter and heiress of Nicholas Kennett of Coxhoe, deceased.

His six daughters were mentioned in his will, as being entitled to a good education, if they weren't happy in Durham they could transfer to France. I think they inherited money, possibly from their mother.
