He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. He was a plumber, carpenter, home mechanic and a jack-of-all-trades. Member of the N.A.C.L., a letter carrier for the post office in Madison for 16 years, served on the beer board and the parks board for the city of Hendersonville in the late 1960s, a member of the D.A.V. and the American Legion.
