• Notes

[sacket.ged] A handwritten note in a copy of the 'Genealogical Record of the Barnum Family' states that Eliphalet Barnum fought in the Revolutionary War as a sergeant in Captain Noble BENEDICT's Sixth Company, 16th Connecticut Regiment. That notation appears to be in error, since the date of Eliphalet's death is several years before the beginning of the Revolutionary War. The reference may have been to Eliphalet Barnum (1750-1777), son of this Eliphalet, although his regimental affiliation was different. Eliphalet's widow and children fled from Danbury, Connecticut, the day before it was burned and looted by the British under General William TRYON (Apr 1777). This list of Eliphalet's children is said to be incomplete. 'The Barnum Family, 1350-1907' gives a death year of ABT 1776.
