  Stirnet shows Beatrix (Beatrice) as wife of 6th Lord Maxwell, and thier first son, Robert, as the 7th Lord. This in turn is questionable as he apparently died young, so would not have inherited the title. Their second son, John, is shown as the 8th Lord. It was he who inherited the title Earl of Morton following the execution of James Douglas, 4th Earl of Morton, Regent of Scotland. However, the title was later revoked when the earldom was restored to the Douglas family.
