- Edward Nicholas Boots was born c1834, in Beaver County, Pennsylvania, and died in September 1864, in the Confederate Prison at Andersonville, Georgia. He had attained the rank of Quartermaster's Sergt., 101st Pennsylvania Volunteers, and was unmarried. The 1860 Census of Beaver County, Pennsylvania lists his occupation as Teacher.
Many letters written by Edward N. Boots to his mother and others, during the time of his service in the Civil War, have been preserved and published. Letters written by him during his service in Virginia are published in the Virginia Magazine of History and Biography, Volume 69, Number 2, April 1961. Letters written during his service in North Carolina are published in The North Carolina Historical Review, Volume 36, Number 2, April 1959.

OBITUARY of Edward Nicholas Boots. "Edward Nicholas Boots, Quartermaster's Sergt., 101st P. V., died in the military prison at Andersonville, Ga., Sept. 1864, in the 31st year of his age. He was a resident of Beaver Co., Pa. His parents, John and Sylvia Boots, were natives of England and came to this country in 1829. The father, who died 11 years ago, was a local preacher of the M. E. Church."
