Notes |
- George Douglas, 2nd Earl of Dunbarton succeeded to the title of 2nd Earl of Dunbarton on 20 March 1692
One family record shows that George Douglas, second Earl of Dumbarton had a son who took the name Barrack from Rannoch Barracks, in Perthshire, and subsequently married a Barbara Watt and lived near Ellon, in Aberdeenshire. They had a son Alexander Scarlett Barrack, who was born in Ellon in Aberdeenshire. Alexander went to Australia and captained ships in the South Pacific for 35 years , and later settled in Fiji.
The other family record shows that an Alexander Barrack married Barbara Watt. His son, George, went to Austrailia in about 1858.
It is of note that the 2nd Earl of Dumbarton is normally shown as dying childless.
Vicki Morris contributed: This link sounds interesting, but doesn't seem to fit with the Barrack family history that is available from the Aberdeen & N,E. Scotland History Society. They have very kindly passed on the information that they have, so if your Australian & New Zealand enquirers wish to contact me, I can pass on what I have. I am a descendent of Captain Alexander Barrack, son of Alexander & Barbara and brother of George and James. All three sons came out to Australia.
