- "Simon Sparks had a brother named HENRY SPARKS who was born about 1696in England or Ireland. Henry Sparks appeared in New Jersey records asearly as 1731. When Henry Sparks wrote his will in 1748 (for anabstract see page 246 of the Quarterly) he described himself as"innholder of the town and county of Gloucester. He died in 1755. Hewas married twice. His first wife was Ann ---, the mother of all (7)of children. He was married, 2nd, in 1750, to widow ElizabethBallinger." "An interesting advertisement pertaining to Henry Sparks appeared in anewspaper published in Philadelphia called The Pennsylvania Gazette onJuly 6, 1738: 'Run away on Sunday last, from Henry Sparks, ofGloucester Township, West-New-Jersey, an Irish Servant Man, namedJaames Mordox, about 60 Years of age, of a dark complexion, grey hair,but cut off, by Trade a Smith. Had on a suit of brown cloaths, newshoes and new stockings. Whoever secures the said servant so that hisMaster may have him again shall have Forty Shillings Reward, andreasonale charges paid by HENRY SPARKS."
