George and probably Alexander came in the draft of immigrants of the Lancashire Co-operative Emigration Society to settle river front land on the upper Mary River named "Pioneers Rest". The settlers cleared the land of Kauri Pine timber which was sold to fund the cultivation of cotton crops. Anne's husband David Whittaker was also a member of the draft.
