- Sir Daniel Keyte Sandford (1798-1838) was Professor of Greek from 1821 until his death in 1838. The Sandford Scholarship is named for him.
The second son of the Bishop of Edinburgh, Sandford was educated at the University of Edinburgh and at Christ Church, Oxford. He was a celebrated contributor to Blackwood's Magazine and the and published a number of Greek translations, as well as class text books. He was knighted in 1830 for his support of the Government's policy on Catholic emancipation.
In 1832 Sandford stood unsuccessfully for Parliament in Glasgow. He was elected MP for Paisley in 1834 but resigned his seat the following year.
