- He was educated at Eton College, Windsor, Berkshire, England, and New College, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, England. He gained the rank of Temporary Captain in the service of the 4th Battalion, Cameron Hldrs (TA). He was Aide-de-Camp to the Viceroy of India between 1941 and 1943.
