MABLE L. HARRISON, 79, of Newport, died at 9:36 P.M. August 06, 2001at her residence in Newport. Born Nov. 01, 1921 in West Union, shewas the Dau. of Ira Hatch and Cuba Joyne Farner Hatch. She was anactive member of the Newport Church of God for the past 45 years. Shewas a 1940 graduate of Newport High School and a chartered member ofthe Newport American Legion Auxiliary Post no. 184. She worked as avolunteer at the Danville Veterans Hospital and in the gift shop ofthe former Vermillion County Hospital in Clinton. She married Geo.'Gabe' W. Harrison on Sept. 01, 1940 in Newport and he proceeded herin death on Sept. 03, 1994. She was also preceeded in death by herparents, one son, Robert Lee, one granddaughter, one great-grandson,and 3 sisters, Goldie Williams, Nellie Gaines, and Elsie Collins.Survivors: 3 daughters, Dorothy Johnson of Anchorage, Alaska, SueCheesman and Marty Zumwalt of Newport. 2 sons: Geo. Harrison ofDanville, Illinois and Dale 'Shag' of Newport, and severalgrandchildren and great grandchildren. Services will be held at10:A.M., Thursday at DeVerter Bros. Funeral Home in Cayuga with Rev.Travis Gridler officiating. Burial will be in Thomas Cemetery inNewport. Visitation will be held from 4 until 8 P.M. Wed. at thefuneral home."
