- A LETTER FROM ELSIE PIERSON TINCHER TO JOYCE L. (CLORE) ELKINS, POSTMARKED: 16 JUL 1980: "Sorry I have been so long about answering yourletter. Yes I can remember of my dad talking about the Dougherty's.But I don't know much about them. Dad's father & mother settled on 80acres out north of Cates. Built a log cabin and raised their familythere. Some of the Bond's were living in Kingman. And Saul & Henry Idon't know who they married but they were buried in the HarveysburgCemetery and their wives too probably. And the James & Rachel Bennettwe knew and visited with had only two children. John and Perry. Theydid have children living in Attica and James Bennett was Aunt Reene(Rune) Rector Bennett. Wish you could bring Gladys (Farner Elkins)and come over some time. We could talk about all of those people andperhaps remember more of them. Did you get the piece about J.T.Myers. We didn't get to the funeral. We had seen him just a fewweeks back. For he helped Shelby's when my sister Iva passed away. Wego out most every Sunday for dinner but are home most always on Sundayafternoons. So maybe you can get a chance to drive over. Love.Elsie." [Transcribed 10 June 2005, SLJuhl, compiler]
Update Source: Elsie Pierson Rector filled in several work sheetcharts on the William Henry and John Wesley Pierson Pearson familiesthat are kept in the Rector Volume I--Pearson. Grandmother GladysFarner Elkins, of which Elsie spoke of in the above letter, died in1985. There was no date on the letter, so Joyce L. Clore Elkins (Mymother and daughter-in-law to Gladys Farner Elkins.) must havereceived the letter and information prior to 1985.
