DATED: FEBRUARY 1945
"James Clore, 74, of Newport, was killed instantly at 10:35 a.m. todaywhen he was hit by the Chicago and Eastern Illinois train, no. 99north of the depot on the north side of Newport. The fatal accidentoccurred when Mr. Clore was pushing a coal filled wheel barrow acrossthe tracks, it was reported. Details about the cause of the accidentwere not given but the aged man apparently did not hear the northbound train. The body severely mangled, was thrown several feet fromthe tracks. He is survived by one son, Preston of Newport. The bodywas taken to Watson Funeral Home in Cayuga, Ind. Conductor F. W.Jantz and Engineer Curtis Smith, both of Evansville, Ind., were incharge of the train which had just left Clinton, going north. Theaccident was investigated by officers, Ellis Debold and Hal Rayborn,Sheriff Loren Griffin and Coroner Howard Watson."
