"The following information wa s furnished by Iva Vavak.
The trade of plasterer in the Redenbaugh family goes as far back a1860 (and perhaps furthur). John Redenbaugh (Son of Thomas and Nancy)handed this trade down to his sons. Which included his youngest son,Harry (Iva's grandfather). There are many churches and large buildingsin and
around Salina, KS which were plastered inside by the sons of JohnRedenbaugh. Wesleyan College in Salina, KS was plastered by fiveRedenbaughs.
Harry Britton had very little education. He ran away from home when hewas ten yrs old, ( his mother died around that time) and aftermarrying, Harry started up his own plastering business. Shortly afterstarting, he became very ill. His wife got him some third gradearithmatic books and he taught himself to multiply and divide. Thisenabled him to do his own figuring for his plastering jobs. Three ofHarry's five sons followed him in the trade and became quite expert atit. Earl's only son ( Harry's grandson) became a plasterer.
After living in KS for some years, John Redenbaugh acquired about 900acres of wheat land. This was near Burton, KS. He was considered to bevery wealthy for those days. But he was very stingy with
his family, his children were never allowed but one pair of shoes ayear, no matter when their shoes wore out. None of his wealth wasinherited by his children however, since the will he made in 1919 leftall his property to his second wife Mary. According to his willhowever the property was to be
divided in equal parts and given to his nine children, but Mary neverprobated the will and left the property to her children by a previousmarriage.
It's interesting to note that each generation seems to move on toanother state. Starting with Thomas leaving OH for IND. and then lateron to KS. His eldest son John moving to Long Beach, CA in his oldage. Harry raised his sons in KS and they in turn left KS in the1940's for CA. All of Harry's son's eventually came to CA and settledin and around Los Angles area." [Transcribed 15 October 2008, SLJuhl,Compiler]
