- From Doug Hickling
"JOHN DUNBAR, the second son, was created Earl of Moray in 1372. Hemarried Marjorie, a daughter of Robert, Earl of Strathearn, afterwardsKing Robert II, by his first wife, Elizabeth, daughter of Adam (Sir) Mureof Rowallan. He died before 15 February 1392 when their son John wasstyled Earl of Moray."
Sometimes shown as the son of Black Agnes (of Moray) Randolph.
However Doug Hickling has found otherwise as he says:
"You list the mother of John (1st Earl of Moray) Dunbar as Black Agnes(of Moray) Randolph. In fact Black Agnes and her husband had no childrenand John (1st Earl of Moray) Dunbar was the son of Patrick (Sir) Dunbar, who married Isabella Randolph, who was Black Agnes'
sister. Isabella (or Isobel or Isabel) Randolph and her sister Agneswere
daughters of Thomas (Sir) Randolph, who became first Earl of Moray, andhis wife Isobel Stewart, daughter of John (Sir) Stewart of Bonkill byMargaret, heiress of Bonkhill. This is shown in SP 6:294-5. Thusneither of the Randolph sisters were descended from John/Thomas (3rd Earlof Moray Regent) Randolph and his spouse Euphemia de Ross. SP 6:295-7,says that Thomas, second Earl of Moray, left no issue and neither did hisbrother John, 3rd Earl of Moray. So, Euphemia had no children by him andlater married the man who became King Robert II and had children by him."
