As well as his income from his Craigforth estate, John received an income from the Cromartie estate, through his cousin George Mackenzie Earl of Cromartie. John married a relation Mary Livingston, daughter of Sir James Livingston of Glentirran and Dalderse, and his wife Helen Campbell heiress of Ardkinglas and Gargunnock estates. As an infant John had shared a crib with his future wife at Callendar House, Falkirk, Mary was a gt. granddaughter of Alexander Livingston 2nd Earl of Callander. John and Mary Callander had seventeen children, John died in September 1789.
