- Elias Horry fled to Holland when his father was imprisoned following the
revocation of the Edict of Nantes in 1685. From Holland, he went to
England, then sailed to America with other French Huguenots and settled
in South Carolina about 1691. He died of Yellow Fever in Charleston in
1736, and was buried in the French Protestant (Huguenot) churchyard.
