14 John Lyon, IV Lord Glamis. Born 1452, died 1500. He marriedElizabeth (Emily ?) Gray1, on May 18, 1487, daughter of Lord Andrew Grayand Janet Keith Gray. She was born in Huntley, Aberdeen, and diedJanuary 19, 1529. Three children: George, John and Alexander. [Conflict:other source lists children as Thomas, Richard and John.]
15 George Lyon, V Lord Glamis. Born 1488, Glamis, Angushire,Scotland. He died unmarried in 1505 and the title passed to his brother.
15 John Lyon, VI Lord Glamis. Born 1491 at Glamis, Angushire,Scotland [Circa James IV, Mary Stuart Queen of Scotland]. John Lyon diedin April 8,1528. James IV renewed his alliance with King of France in1513. The herald who brought the declaration was "The Scotch LordLyon". Another Lyon King-at-Arms or Lion King-at Arms: one of the Perthshire courtiers of an Earl Marshal-keeper of the heraldic beasts of theRoyal Shield. The battle of Flodden Field killed 12,000 including KingRobert II. The few among those not killed was John Lyon, VI LordGlamis.
He married Janet Douglas2, second daughter of King Robert, born 1495 inAngus, Scotland, who died by fire publicly on Castle Hill of Edinburgh,July 12(17?), 1537. In the first part of the sixteenth century thebeautiful widowed Glamis was imprisoned in Edinburgh Castle with heryoung Son Lord Glamis and her second husband, a Campbell of Skipnish.She was falsely accused of witchcraft and mixing of potions, andconspiracy to kill King James V, by evidence of a perjurer. One versionof the story related that another Campbell wish to marry Glamis and toldthe King tales of potions and witchcraft and that on his deathbed heconfessed to the falsehoods. Glamis was condemned to death together withher young son. Campbell of Skipnish was killed trying to escape and LordGlamis was reprieved until he came of age, but was kept a prisoner untilthe King's death. Glamis was found guilty of the trumped-up accusationand on December 3, 1540 was burned alive as a witch on the Castle Hill ofEdinburgh 'with great commiseration of the people, being in the prime ofher years, of a singular beauty, and suffering all, though a woman, witha manlike courage, all men conceiving that it was not this fact(witchcraft) but the hatred with the King carried to her brothers and therest of the Douglas clan.'
While Glamis castle was in the hands of the King it was used by heand his Queen, Marie of Lorraine, who held court their and ransacked itof most of its valuable furnishings.
16 John Lyon, VII Lord Glamis. Born 1510 [Circa Mary Stuart] Hewas placed under his uncle Alexander Lyon and died 10/3/1592. AfterKing James V died he was released and his property (Glamis) restored tohim. He married Janet Keith 2/6/1543. 17 John Lyon, VIII, Lord Glamis. [Circa Mary Stuart] John died in1578, accidently killed at Sterling Scotland, in an encounter withfollowers of the Lindsay family. Privy Councillor, Extraordinary Lord ofthe Session (1573), High Chancellor of Scotland (1573), Keeper of theGreat Seal, Lord of Scession (1570). He married Elizabeth Abernathy onJuly 2, 1569. She was the daughter of Lord Salton.

19 Patrick Lyon, born 1575, died December 19, 1615. IX Lord ofGlamis. [Circa James VI] He succeeded his father at the age of three in1578. In 1606 he was created First Earl of Kinghorne, Privy Councillorto James VI of Scotland and also became James I of England in 1603,Commissioner to treat the union with England. He married Anne Murray,Daughter of Lord Tullibardine. He was a prominent public servant andstarted working on the redecorating of Glamis castle.
20 John Lyon, X Lord Glamis, Second Earl of Kinghorne. [CircaJames VI, who is also James I of England in 1603] Scotland becomes partof England. His second wife was Margaret Erskine.
21 Patrick, Earl of Strathmore, 3rd Earl of Kinghorne, 1677. PrivyCouncillor, Extra Lord of Session, in charge of the commissary of thearmy in Argyll's rebellion 1643-1595.
17 Hon. Thomas (Sir) Lyon, Master of Glamis. [Circa James VI,Scotland, James I of England]. Lord Lyon - King of Arms, Keeper ofheraldic beasts of Royal Shield, deeded lands in 1586, dubbed Treasurerof Scotland, Extraordinary Lord of Session until 5/28/1593. Hesurrounded the castle with armed men, taking James VI prisoner. Hemarried Agnes Gray (Horne) and was deeded her land in 1579-1586. Hemarried Eufamia Douglas, and deed land in 1589. He fled to England,readjusted his places, and returned, seizing Sterling Castle and accusedthe government again. He fled across the border, returned with armedroyal men, invaded the palace, compelled Arran Stuart to quit the royalpresence. He was appointed Captain of Kings Guards. He was a strikingfigure at the coronation of Danish Queen Anna on 5/17/1590, who marriedJames I of England.

She did a lot of research,and attributed some of the material from a 3 volumes titled "LyonMemorial". She indicated they were purchased in Boston at Goodspeed BookStore. I visited Glamis Castle about 10 years ago and have guidebooksfrom there that had family information, and I also picked up someinformation from various web cites.
