26011 There is a problem with the parents listed in the marriage record: it states the parents of James to be George and Elizabeth, whereas Philip Hartling's book, "Where Broad Atlantic Surges Roll" identifies the Jim Hartling married to Ida Drysdale as a son Macleod, James "Jim" Freeman (I143297)

26012 There is a record that states that Lady Douglas Pennant was buried at St John The Baptist Churchyard, Itchen Abbas, Winchester, Hampshire, England.

It seems likely that the funeral service took place at this church. Sheila was then taken to Southampton Crematorium. It has been confirmed by the Funeral Directors, that the ashes were collected and scattered privately. Place unknown.

26014 There is a significant history of O'Dougherty, O'Doherty in DonegalCounty, Ireland. The surname was used interchangeably withO'Daugherty in early America very often. Please refer to thebeginning of the 'John Christian Rector Family Tree Book' where "TheHistory Of The Surname Dougherty" is listed in the Contents of thebook.

"1810 United States Federal Census; www.Ancestry.com; Image 4 of 15;.334/331.
Name: Edward Daugherty (whose son?), William Daugherty (father),Thomas Daugherty (father), & Charles Daughtery (whose son) listed onthis page for said county along with Nathaniel Richter being listed onimage 11 of 15; 347/344 in the same county as well. They are theonly ones listed in the county-Daughtery and Richtor. There are nosurnames of Dougherty or O'Doherty or Rector. The original spellingof the Rector family was Richter/Richtor. Even though Rachaelspelled her name with an "o" (as my family claims) instead of an "a",I'm sure that the census takers wrote it down as it sounded with an"a".

Note: This is undoubtably the family, however there are two Daughertymales listed old enough to be Rachel's father either Thomas or WilliamDaugherty who are living near each other and no doubt are brothers orfather-son. William is listed in the tax roles in Frederick,Virginia, but there is no Thomas listed. So, William may be theoldest. Also there are two sons Charles & Edward, but unknown whichis their father as same with Rachael. We now have names of thefamily, but must sort out who belongs to whom.
O'doherty, Rachel Daugherty (I150824)

26017 There is a story told by Miss Mairi Chisholm (daughter of Margaret Fraser and Captain Ruari Chisholm) that during a dinner party at Guisachan, her grandfather said, "If anyone gave me ?60,000 for Guisachan, I would sell it tomorrow." "Done," came the reply from the other end of the table. When her grandfather asked to be released from the sale the next day as he had not meant his remarks at dinner, Marjoribanks replied, "No. A gentleman's word is his bond." The sale of Guisachan estate, then about 20,000 acres, was completed for ?52,000.

26018 There is a Thomas Kelsey who married Maggie L. Douglass in MontgomeryCounty, Indiana in 1884. Probably related to Eliza Jane Kelsey.Several other Kelsey's lived in Montgomery County at this time period. 26021 There is an Irene Mariman that fits the age, place, and in the censusrecords plus an Irene DeKezel in the Social Security Records of theappropriate age and place. And since this is the stated name by thefamily of the mother/grandmother in this family line, then it would besafe to conclude that this is the proper spelling of the name thatsounds like--Merriman to the family. Also, the wedding anniversaryarticle does give her maiden name as Mariman as well.; 25 February2009-Update: Mariman is the correct spelling as per her obituary.

26026 There is conflicting info for Dorcas' parents. I tend to believe Duncan over Burke's peerage. Burke's says James Humphrey died in 1728 and resided in Dorchester, MA in 1743. Humphrey, Rev. Charles (I15157)

26027 There is conflicting information on the two Daniel Case III's. I have placed them both here based on their father being Daniel and their location and birth dates. Perhaps this can be solved later. (JTC) Family: Daniel Case, Jr. / Hepzibah Moore (F10726)

26028 There is considerable doubt about Lord Archibald Douglas (one s more likely than two ss).

One version says that Lord Archibald Douglass was the grandson of Sir William Douglas, 9th Earl of Drumlanrig and 1st Earl of Queensbury who was born about 1582 and died in 1640.
See here for more information: http://www.douglashistory.co.uk/history/archibald_douglas6.htm

It is said that
He left his Scottish property to his sister who married a Lord Hone.

Came from near Edinburgh, Scotland to America abt 1725, perhaps 1728, bringing with them their household belongings. It is said they chartered a ship for themselves and immediate friends.

He also had 2 daughters.

It is said that Lord Douglass, after his brother was killed, grew tired of the constant fighting. He decided to move his family to America abt 1725.
Douglass, Lord Archibald (I96782)

26029 There is no doubt that in 1603 the Hallidays were in actual possession of Tullibole, but it is probable that Holbourne had lent money over it, and as a wadsetter styled himself " of Tullibole." John Halliday died 19th September 1606, and was buried in Inverkeithing churchyard, which goes to show that at that time there was no residential mansion on the estate. His tombstone is still visible, with a coat-of-arms consisting of a chevron between three cinquefoils, impaling the arms of his wife, three inescutcheons, the bearings of the family of Hay, she having been, according to some accounts, the daughter of Patrick Hay of Pitfour, and, according to others, of a Colonel Hay in the service of the States-General. Halliday, William (of Tullibole) (I193872)

26030 There is no firm proof of the lineage of "Lady" Margaret.. Edith A. Rudder in "My Father's Family" suggests Scottish parents. Margaret is said to have been from the Black Douglas line of Scotland, house of Drumlaurig. Grandfather might have been James 2nd, Earl of Queensbury.
Betty Kupersmith of Seattle has read she was a granddaughter of James Douglas (who was James Campbell that married a Douglas with no male descendant and assumed the heirship of Douglas with Campbell as a married name.

Only recorded proof of the wife of Anthony Haden is a deed 29 Nov 1745 when "Margaret, his wife" reliquished her right of Dower.

From "Regarding the Ancestry of Margaret Douglas", by Jack H. Thacker; The Longhunter, Vol.15, No. 3 (Autumn 1992) pp.112-116
"The purpose of this article is to clarify a longstanding mistake with regard to the forebears of Margaret Douglas, who married Anthony Haden and immigrated to Virginia early in the 18th century.
Some 10 or 12 years ago, shortly after I became involved in genealogy research, I was advised by an elderly kinswoman that this Margaret Douglas was a daughter of William Douglas, 1st Earl of March and 2nd Duke of Queensberry and his wife, Jane Hay, Countess of March. My cousin, a resident of San Francisco, did not provide proof. However, I was advised by several experienced genealogists that she was a very competent researcher and that her findings were generally sound.
Subsequently, I discovered in the 'Parochial Register of Baptisms, 1660-1725, Peebles, Scotland' a record which reads as follows: "The 9 of Apr 1701. The E of March had a daughter baptized by Mr. James Thompson, vicar of Peebles, called Margaret Douglas. Witness, Lord David Hay, Mr. William Hay of Drummowbriar, Major Archibald Douglas of the horse guard, and the Laird of Marybowe." This was intriguing because it has been family tradition since at least the early 19th century that our Margaret Douglas was "of Drumlanrig", and the Earl of March was described as "William Douglas of Drumlanrig." As a result, I continued to search for a record of this Margaret Douglas's marriage or a record of her death, but my efforts were to no avail.
Recently, however, I have received proof that Margaret Douglas, daughter of the Earl of March, was not my ancestor, Margaret Douglas, wife of Anthony Haden. Irene (Mrs. Ben H.) cook of Longview, Texas received a communication dated 22 January 1992, from the Scots Ancestral Research Society in Edinburgh which stated the following entry was found in the old parochial registers of Peebles: "Lady Margaret Douglles (sic) daughter of the Eirall (sic) of March was buried the 23 of June 1705." Thus, this Margaret Douglas died at age 4.
We are indebted to Mrs. Cook who carried on extended correspondence and incurred not a little expense to obtain this information.
It now becomes the responsibility of us who are descendants of Margaret Douglas Haden to renew efforts to determine her parentage.
Just as there is some scant evidence of a John Haden who lived in King & Queen and then King William County beginning a few years prior to 1700, there is also evidence he had a neighbor named William Douglas. [They are both listed in the 1704 rent rolls in King William which had just been formed out of King & Queen.] This is intriguing to say the least. I have long believed that Anthony and Margaret were not immigrants of their familes but were both likely born right there in Virginia. Of course the records of King & Queen and King William are practically all destroyed so further evidence is simply not available.
Douglas, Margaret (Lady) (I108650)

26031 There is no record of a divorce but both Jane and William remarried.

Family: William Leonard Douglas / Jane Wyatt (F78850)

26032 There is no sign of William and Catherine by 1861, so they may have died by then.
In 1841, hr age was given as 45 and in 1851 it was 58!
Yule, Catherine (I77317)

26035 There is not much known about this family as yet. Clore, Elizabeth (I64764)

26036 There is some confusion on the relationship with the family of Langlando. According to "Doig", their son William (3rd of Cuninghamhead) may also have married a daughter of that family. Doig also shows Andrew, second son of William (2nd of Cuninghamhead) as being "of Langlando". Cuningham [Cunningham], William (2nd of Cuninghamhead) (I105836)

26037 There is some confusion over the two sisters.
I had a note that 'Ellen' married Goerge Walter Hodgins, but also had it recorded that 'Margaret Emeline' was also married to GWH.
Evidence seems to point to Elizabeth ellen being married to William Dagg.

26038 There is some confusion over the two sisters.
I had a note that 'Ellen' married Goerge Walter Hodgins, but also had it recorded that 'Margaret Emeline' was also married to GWH.
Evidence seems to point to Elizabeth ellen being married to William Dagg.
Derham, Elizabeth Ellen (I184974)

26039 There is some confusion surrounding George Lauder of Haltoun's marriage. George Crawfurd's Peerage (p. 91) states that he married "Helen, a sister of Lord Douglas", and that is repeated by J. Stewart Smith (1898). The assumption is that she must be the sister of Archibald Douglas, 4th Earl of Douglas (1372? 1424), and so the daughter of Archibald Douglas, 3rd Earl of Douglas (c. 1328-1400). Family: George (of Haltoun) Lauder / Helen Douglas (F29060)

26040 There is some disagreement regarding the time and place of her birth. A plaque at 426 Henry St. gives her year of birth as 1850, not 1854. However, on 9 January 1854, the Jeromes lived nearby at number 8 Amity Street (since renumbered as 197). It is believed that the Jeromes were temporarily staying at the Henry Street address, which was owned by Leonard's brother Addison, and that Jennie was born there during a snowstorm. Jerome, Jennie (I118012)

26041 There is some doubt about this marriage Maxwell, Geillis (I89170)

26042 There is some evidence that James died before his mother, who ran the estates before Arthur took over. Douglas, James (2nd of Tilquhilly) (I9053)

26043 There is very little information available on www.Ancestry.com aboutthis couple. It's possible that this Lucy could also be the wife ofWhiley Wright as well as the daughter. A lot more research is neededhere. SLJuhl, Compiler/Genealogist. Wright, Lucy (I91762)

26044 There is, on his gravestone, also mentioned his wife, younger brother Robert and an Archibald Douglas, died 4 Jul 1857 Cupples, George (I92536)

26045 There may be some confusion with another Sarah, dau. of John Holcomb, who was also listed as being born 5/2/1719 acc. to the Holcomb site. Holcomb, Sarah (I22168)

26046 There may have been two marriages. Sir Hervey may also have married a Fraser heiress, though whom he acquired lands in SW Lothian. Family: Sir Hervey de Keith / (F36574)

26047 There was a Christian Douglas who was buried in 1829 age 84 yrs in Southdean parish but whether that was this Christian or the maternal grandmother of Robert Reid Sword whose name was also Christian Douglas (marr. Robert Reid) or even another person is unclear. Christian (I118113)

26048 There was a Christian Douglas who was buried in 1829 age 84 yrs in Southdean parish but whether that was this Christian or the wife of John Douglas, 1775-1855 or even another person is unclear. Douglas, Christian (I118613)

26049 There was a death notice in the Lincoln, Rutland and Stamford Mercury on 29 May 1863 so she died before then de Wend, Mary Adelaide Lousia (I85400)

26050 There was a MacMIllan family [(ancestors to Fred (F.B>) MacMillan(nowdeceased) of Cornwall, a cousin to my Dad] that lived between Berwick andthe village of Crysler in Finch Township. This particular MacMillanancestor of F.B. was called 'Black Angus' MacMillan, and he was the sonof Ewen MacMillan who migrated c 1827 from Scotland (a cousin to my gtgtDuncan Ban MacMillan of Lot 23, 3, Finch).
