John Douglas(1), was born on February 6, 1840 in Bury, in England. Later he went to Mexico, to Aguascalientes, where he founded several companies such as the flour factory "La Perla" and the tram system, and settled in a farm known as "Chalet Douglas", on one side of the land where it was later built the castle.

In 1887 his daughter Adela Douglas Valencia married José Guadalupe Ortega, whose first child was Edmundo Ortega Douglas, who always had a great admiration and affection for John Douglas, for which he named his farm "Castillo Douglas".
