Sir Charles Eurwick Douglas, MP

 

 

 

 


Charles Eurwick Douglas, the natural son of the late Right Hon. Charles Yorke, was born in 1806[1]

In 1832, he married Jane Mary Anne Des Voeux (d.12 November 1873), dau. of Sir Charles Des-Vaux, 2nd Bart.[2] He was educated at Harrow and St. John's College, Cambridge, where he graduated B.A. 1828, M.A. 1831.[1]

He was private secretary to Lord Ripon from 1830 to 1834, when his lordship was secretary of state for the colonies; was a commissioner of Greenwich Hospital from Aug. 1845 to July 1846 ; formerly King of Arms of the Order of St. Michael and St. George, on appointment to which office he was knighted.[1] He was a Director of the London and North Western Railway.

He was M.P. for Warwick from 1837 to 1852, sitting as a Conservative. In 1853, he unsuccessfully contested Durham city. He sat as a Liberal for Banbury from May 1859.[1]

He died d. 21 February 1887
