A massive Z-plan castle in the Scottish Borders, Drochil Castle lies
between the Tarth and Lyne Waters, 7 miles (11 km) southwest of Peebles.
It was built by James Douglas, Earl of Morton, Regent of Scotland, but was
not completed before his execution in 1581 for his part in the death of
Henry, Lord Darnley, husband of Mary Queen of Scots.
