In Arbroath town centre just off the A92.

The substantial ruins of a Tironensian monastery, founded by William the Lion in 1178 who is buried in the Abbey. Parts of the abbey church and domestic buildings remain, notably the gatehouse range and the abbot’s house.

Arbroath Abbey, Arbroath, was the location of the signing of the Declaration of Scottish Independence on April 6, 1320. The declaration was signed and bore the seals of 38 Scots Lords including that of James (The Good), Lord of Douglas .
