- DOUGLAS, WILLIAM WESLEY M.D. Age 82, of Chesapeake, VA passed away Wednesday, September 15, 2010. A native of Birmingham, AL, he was the son of the late Dr. Gilbert and Mary Douglas. He graduated from Birmingham Southern College with a B.S. in Chemistry, the University of Alabama with a M.S. in Biology and his M.D. degree. He served his residency in Pathology at the University of Alabama and the Philadelphia General Hospital; his residency in OB-Gyn at Charity Hospital in New Orleans and the University of Oklahoma; and his residency in Psychiatry at the VA Hospital, North Little Rock, Arkansas and Dean's Committee Hospital at the University of Arkansas. He was a Professor of Behavioral Medicine in the Psychiatric Dept. at the UVA School of Medicine in Charlottesville. He was Medical Director at Catawba Hospital in Catawba, VA, and the Chief of Psychiatry Services at the VA Medical Center in Salem, VA. He also served in the US Air Force as a flight surgeon. Dr. Douglas is survived by his beloved wife of 32 years, Joyce Norsworthy Douglas of Chesapeake; two daughters, Judy Spergel (Michael) and Deborah Esposito (Louis) all of Chesapeake; two sons, William W. Douglas, Jr. (Jan) of Chesapeake and Stephen V. Douglas (Mary) of Cross Plains, WI; sister, Lillian Berg of Poquoson, VA; and seven grandchildren, Rachel, Anthony, Jamie, William III, Emily, Grace and John. A funeral service will be conducted Friday, September 24, 2010 at 2PM at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home Great Bridge Chapel with Rev. Charles Mosley officiating. The burial will follow in Chesapeake Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday, September 23, 2010 from 6 to 8 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.
