Sir Ralph Assheton, 1st Bt. matriculated at Brasenose College, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, England, on 16 February 1598/99. He was admitted to Gray's Inn in 1601. He was created 1st Baronet Assheton, of Leverr, co. Lancaster [England] on 28 June 1620 by King James. He held the office of High Sheriff of Lancashire in 1624. In 1629 he sold his paternal estate of Great Lever to John Bridgeman, Bishop of Chester.
He lived at Downham, Lancashire, England, at Great Lever, Lancashire, England and at at Whalley Abbey, Lancashire, England.
He had seven other sons by his first wife.
