- Harold Douglas Jr
WINNSBORO ? Funeral services for Harold Eugene Douglas, Jr., age 87, will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 6, 2009, at Gordon Memorial United Methodist Church, conducted by The Reverend Walt Ballenger. Burial will follow in the First Baptist Church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Monday, October 5, at Gordon Memorial United Methodist Church. Memorials may be made to Gordon Memorial UMC, Regency Hospice, or to the charity of one?s choice.
Mr. Douglas died on Saturday, October 3, 2009, at his home with his family surrounding him. Son of the late Harold E. Douglas, Sr. and Mary Lee Bell Douglas, he was born on March 12, 1922, in Winnsboro, SC. He was self employed as a merchant at Carolina Furniture Company in Winnsboro and was also a real estate broker. A lifetime member of New Hope ARP Church, he was a charter member of the Rescue Squad, a member of the CB Club, Lion?s Club, American Legion, Moose Lodge, Jaycees, and the Chamber of Commerce. He was a Mason and member of the Scottish Rite for more than 50 years, and a member of the Jamil Temple AAONMS of Columbia, SC.
Mr. Douglas is survived by one son, Jimmy Ray Douglas and his wife Maudie of Winnsboro; one daughter, Gloria Blackwell of Winnsboro; four brothers, Leslie B. Douglas of Douglass, SC, F. Marion Douglas and his wife Peach of North Augusta, SC, Wallace S. Douglas and his wife Jean of Moore, SC, and Thomas G. Douglas and his wife Carole of Winnsboro; three sisters, Sara D. Wells and her husband Osborne of Shelbyville, TN, Mary Ann D. Hay and her husband William of Houston, TX, and Evelyn D. Long and her husband Ray of Columbia, SC; seven grandchildren, Kim D. Bone, Karen D. Mattox, Harold Ray Crocker, Belinda S. Hill, Rebekah D. Coleman, George ?Bubba? Surratt, and Angel Curtis; and fifteen great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his wife Jennie Cooper Douglas and one daughter, Brenda Crocker.
The family extends sincere thanks and heartfelt appreciation to Vickie Burrell for her love, care, and friendship during the past several years. Along with Ms. Burrell, they also thank Sarah Gibbes, and Pearley Lyles for their special care of Mr. Douglas during the past few weeks. They also wish to express their thanks to his brother Tommy and wife Carole for their love and support as his neighbors and friends. With the love from these wonderful people, family, and Hospice Care, ?Pops? found peace.
