Notes |
- Around 1750, three brothers came to the United States, at New York City. They came from Germany, twenty miles from the border line between Germany and Holland, near the Rhine River.
John Jacob Long was one of the three brothers. He was given a grant of one hundred (100) acres on Cannon's Creek in Newberry County in the year 1768.
He married Elizabeth Hair and lived in Newberry County.
John Jacob Long and Elizabeth Hair Long had three sons: Thomas, Bartholomew and Adam. The John Jacob home was near Macedonia Church in Newberry County and was described by both Mrs. Lula Mae Epting Dreher and Mr. Ben Shealy (Mr. Shealy lived to be over 100 years old) as being a log home with holes left in it so rifles could be fired at deer and other game and possibly to defend the home from intruders. The home overlooked the Saluda River and Camping Creek.
The line continues with Bartholomew Long.
