• Notes

  William, 9th of Timpendean may have been his father. I have still to confirm this. A reference to 'both his brothers', written in relation to Maj Gen Sir William Douglas, indicates that two of Archibald's sons had died by 1850, 'in service' with the army. The third probably died young.
