- "Zedekiah was a farmer; served in the Mexican War in a company ofsharpshooters, and was wounded at the Battle of Buena Vista. Afterthe death of her mother, Nancy worked for the Andrew Lockridge familyas a nursemaid for the children. While living in this family she wasintroduced to Zedekiah, a widower and acquaintance of Mr. Lockridge, who was looking for a wife and mother for his young children. Highlyrecommended, Nancy was introduced to him on a Sunday, he proposed oneweek later, and they wre married one week after that. They lived on afarm just east of the small town of Raccoon in Franklin Township,Putnam County, Indiana. A grandson in 1947 reported that Nancy"raised the family of 12 children, making no differences between herown and her step children, equally loving them all. This made her oneof the grand pioneer women that she was. She was loved and respectedby all in that part of Indiana and waas remembered long after thosewho knew her."
