      WILLIAM TYLER married in Crawfordsville, Indiana to Nancy Ann McCartyon June 07, 1874, and had children: Clara Mae Tyler, Lizzie Tyler,(died age 10), Myrtle Tyler (Barnhart), Charlie Tyler, Edgar Tyler,and Bertha Ethel Tyler (Shoaf) (brothers and sisters to Clara).

      McCARTY FAMILY: (as told by Bertha Ethel Tyler Shoaf - Clara'ssister) Family of Father and Mother McCarty were traveling by wagons. Stopped in Montgomery County, Indiana and built two houses. Only twosons are known of Cornelious and Nickolas. When Cornelious was theage of 12, he was chopping wood when Indians captured him. He had anIndian father who informed him when he was 26/27 that he would have toreturn to his white people as they could not take a white man toOklahoma where they were moving too. He was returned to his place ofcapture, but the two homes were empty and dilapidated. He was neverable to find his parents or brother again. (end)

      Cornelious married Nancy A. Houston Taylor (who was first married toBarsay Taylor at age 13, and they had 4 sons: Henry, Jim, Thomas, andWilliam Taylor. / These are the only step-brothers of Nancy Ann known. Cornelious and Nancy had Nancy Ann McCarty; She was born May 22,1856 and died April 23, 1929. Nancy married William Tyler, June 7,1874 in Crawfordsville, Indiana, and had children: Clara Mae, Lizzie(died age 10), Myrtle (Barnhart), Charlie 5, Edgar 6, Bertha Ethel(Shoaf).

      Clara Mae Tyler Elkins, daughter of William and Nancy Ann McCartyTyler, passed away June 11, 1940 at the residence of her son, Sam,near Tangier, Indiana at the age of 65 years and 26 days. She wasborn in New Market in Montgomery County, May 16, 1875. She wasmarried in Parke County, Indiana, October 01, 1896 to Frank Elkins,who passed away Jan. 9, 1913. She lived most of her life in Parke Co.in or near Annapolis, Indiana, and will be sadly missed by her friendsand relatives there. / She was the mother of four children and helpedto rear four step children. / She leaves three sons and one daughter,Raymond of South Bend, Sam of Tangier, Harold of near Rockville andMrs. Vernon Doan of Clinton. She also leaves two brothers, EdgarTyler of Mecca and Charles Tyler of Indianapolis. Two sisters, Mrs.Myrtle Barnhart of Mecca and Mrs. William (Ethel) Shoaf of nearMarshall, Indiana. Twenty grandchildren and host of friends. / Thefuneral will be Thursday June 13, 1940 at 2 PM., at the residence ofher son Sam. Mrs. Sylvia Catterson will conduct the services andburial will be in Russellville Cemetery."
