    • Ely Kershaw came to Charleston with his brothers Joseph and William about
      1750. He served with Colonel William Thomson's Rangers and rose to the
      rank of Lieutenant Colonel. He was exiled by the British after the
      surrender of Charleston, and died en route to Bermuda.
