"On Friday afternoon last a sad accident happened, whereby the child of Mr
W. Douglas, 18 months old, met his death. It appears that while Mrs Douglas
was dressing after having got through her household duties she left the
children in the kitchen and on returning found her youngest missing. Going
into the garden she found him lying in a water hole close to the house with
his head in the mud at the bottom. She pulled him out immediately andthe
doctor was sent for, who pronounced life to be extinct. Mrs Douglas was only
away from the child for about ten minutes. On Saturday an inquest washeld on
the body and the jury returned a verdict of accidental drowning. There was a
large attendance at the funeral on Sunday of residents in the town toshow
their sympathy for the bereaved parents."
