- servant to the Earl of Mortoun
Two decreets went against Uchtred McDOWELL and on 23 Nov. 1556 the sheriff
> apprised the lands at the instance of Walter DOUGLAS ,who, on Feb. 16
1557
> assigned them to James KENNEDY of Uchtrelure & Agnes Johnston spouses.
"This followed by a decreet in Dec. 1558 that Walter Douglas should warrant the lands to the KENNEDIES at the hands of Uchtred McDOWELL. The KENNEDIES obtained crown confirmation (RMS, 1546/1580 - 1153) and then granted letters of reversion to Walter DOUGLAS to redeem the lands by payment of 1500 merks.
Walter DOUGLAS assigned the reversion to NINIAN ADAIR of KINHILT who obtained decreet compelling the two daughters of KENNEDY to renounce the lands in his favour, being infeft on crown precept on 24 March 1592."
