- John Bowen was 18 September 1758, in Virginia, and died 8 August 1790, in Wilkes County, Georgia, where his Will is on record. He married 1 July 1785, Rachael CLARK, who was born 8 October 1768 in Virginia and died 10 October 1850 in Henry County, Georgia. She was the daughter of Christopher CLARK, II, and Millie TERRELL. She had been married previously to John DAILEY, by whom she had three sons and one daughter. John Bowen, III, and Rachel Clark Bowen had four children.
An abstract of the Will of John Bowen, as Recorded in Will Book "DD", Folio 255, Wilkes County, Georgia, is as follows:
".....All just debts to be paid out of personal estate, 'as to funeral charges perhaps I may be removed at too great distance to be thought of here, therefore I leave that to the hospitality of the people wherever my death may happen.' To wife Rachel all that her father gave her, a slave boy Adam, the dun mare and her bed and furniture. To sons Horatio and William Bowen all other estate real and personal here or elsewhere. Friends Geo. Matthews, his son John Matthews, Excrs., to see to the education of the children which I hope will be made out of the increase of the stock and plantation. No date of test. Proven, Oct. 4, 1790, by the oath of John Matthews, Esqr., before Edward Jones, R.P."
