Notes - Martha Mathews was born in 1754, in Augusta County, Virginia, and died 7 September 1778. She married 30 November 1772, General Thomas POSEY, of Fredericksburg, son of Captain John POSEY and Martha PRICE, widow of George HARRISON. General Posey was born 9 July 1750 in Fairfax County, Virginia, and died 19 March 1818, in Shawneetown, Illinois. He was a Major in the Revolution, and later Brigadier General in the United States Army, and at one time was Lieutenant Governor of Kentucky. After the death of Martha Mathews, Thomas Posey married Mary ALEXANDER, widow of Major George THORNTON. Martha Mathews and Thomas Posey had three children, only one of whom lived to maturity.
