Supposed inscriptions from a bible - c.1870
Footnote: There is obviously more information in this Family Bible. The seller at Ebay, did not give all family information. This is all that was given.
Handwritten inscription (ink, faded with age) and dedication from Erskine and Sophia Douglas to their daughter Laura and John Atwood (son-in-law?) is found on front flyleaf.
The inscription reads:
Our Children

Six sheets of ruled paper were taped behind one illustrated middle page. The beautiful penmanship is apparently from the hand of Erskine Douglas.
The last paragraph was signed:
"April 1856. Erskine Douglas"
Extracted from the handwritten pages:

(Robert Douglas remained at Plymouth Mass, a few years ago the writer examined a list of voters of that town and found about one fourth were of the name Douglas, no doubt they were his descendants.

The Mayflower returned to England in May 1621 and had fallen into disrepair by may 1624, so any '2nd voyage' would have to taken place between those dates. In1629, a ship called the Mayflower made a voyage from London to Plymouth Colony carrying thirty-five passengers, many from Leiden. This was not the same ship that made the original voyage with the first settlers. This voyage began in May and reached Plymouth in August.
NOTE: For some time, I showed william's father as 'Robert of Scotland' and Jean Ross, however this would appear to be disproved by DNA testing.
William, Anne, Anne Jr. and Robert sailed for America a year after Robert was born.
The two parishes where the three children were baptized were Church of England parishes. This is significant as it seems William was a Puritan, with Calvinistic roots
