He was killed in battle at Crown Point, June 23, 1755.
Crown Point, located on Lake Champlain in northeastern New York, just north of Fort Ticonderoga, has an interesting history of its own. In 1731 the French constructed a stone fort (Fort-Saint-Fr?d?ric) on the peninsula, which they called Point ? la Couronne (Crown Point). Despite English-Colonial expeditions sent against it, Crown Point remained in French hands until 1759. It must have been on one of those unsuccessful expeditions that Thomas met his death. In 1759 the fort was occupied by forces commanded by Sir Jeffrey (later Lord) AMHERST, who began the construction near old Fort-Saint-Fr?d?ric of a larger fort, which was garrisoned but never completed. At the outbreak of the Revolutionary War the fort was captured by Colonel Seth WARNER and a force of Green Mountain Boys. It remained in American hands except for a brief period in 1777, when it was occupied by a detachment of General John BURGOYNE's invading British Army.
In place of the descendants shown here, 'The Barnum Family' shows (apparently in error) sons Thomas, Stephen, Jabez, Zacheus, Solomon and Saul, and their descendants. The 'Genealogical Record of the Barnum Family' and this site place that line under Jabez Barnum (m. 1728), son of Thomas Barnum (b. 14 Jan 1716).
