ARTICLE: "VERN AND GEORGIANA CLORE; Parke County, Indiana HistoryBook, 929, page 178, from the Rockville Parke County, Indiana Library;Article kept in the Clore notes of Joyce Lorraine Clore Elkins ofParke County, Indiana.
Vern Clore was born in Parke County, May 13, 1897, on his father'sfarm, in the northeast corner of Howard Township. He grew up, huntingand fishing with his brother, Bernard, along Sugar Creek, from theHigh Iron Bridge through the Shades to the Deers Mill and Devils BackBone area.
He was the son of Erastus and Elvie Keeling Clore. Erastus was bornMar. 9, 1857, in Howard Township, the son of Berriman and Mary RiceClore, Elvie was born June 24, 1870, in Fountain Co., IN, the daughterof Dexter and Mary Lowe Keeling.
Vern's great grandparents, Isreal and Frances Deer Clore, came toIndiana, where Isreal obtained a Patent Deed at the Land office, atCrawfordsville in 1831, for land in the northeast corner of HowardTownship, Parke County. So Vern's ancestors were among the firstlandowners in Parke County.
In 1925, Vern brought his bride, Georgiana Fulwider, to the familyfarm. Georgiana (Georgia) was born Dec. 9, 1906, in Montgomery Co.,IN, daughter of Walter and May Gravett Fulwider.
Two years later, Vern and Georgia moved to Byron, where they owned andoperated the Byron Store. Also, in the late 1920's, Georgia drove the"school hack" for Byron School.
They sold the store to Forrest and Betty Coleman in the 1930's, butcontinued to live in the house by the store.
In 1932, their daughter, Carol Jean was born. Georgia's brothers andsisters Gaynel, Bud, Joe, Fred, and Bettie Fulwider and other familymembers lived with them at various times. It was a large, lively, andvery happy household, where unexpected guests were always welcome.
The store, yard, and house was a gathering place for the Byroncommunity; where friends and neighbors cam to buy groceries, visit, and sometimes have Vern give them a haircut, or fix a pair of shoes. It was said that it was also a place where many a tall tale was toldand many a practical joke was pulled.
Georgia was known for her cooking and gracious hospitality. She alsowas always there to help a friend or neighbor in need.
Vern was a farmer, trucker, logger, livestock trader, and had a horsebreeding business, where he had both stallions and jacks at stud.
Vern and his daughter Carol, both loved horses, and participated inall of the local fairs, showing horses and ponies, in the 1930's and1940's.
They lived at Byron until the early 1940's, then moved to nearbyWaveland, where Vern continued the same businesses, and Georgiaparticipated in many activities of the community.
Vern died May 9, 1972, and Georgia died Mar. 27, 1984. In her lateryears, Georgia babysat for Carl and Jane Stiener, helping to raisethree daughters. It gave her great pleasure to be part of a youngfamily, and kept her young in spirit.
Their daughter, Carol, married Ronald Rivers in 1950. They have threegrown children; Ronna, Bret, and Curtis; and two grandchildren; RuthAnna and Mitchel Curtis.
Ron and Carol live in Kokomo, IN., where Ron is a senior researchassociate with Haynes International, Inc. Carol is a retiredabstractor.
They have returned to Parke County frequently over the years and havepassed their love for the area on to their children andgrandchildren." [Transcribed 23 January 2008, SLJuhl, compiler, dau.]
