- John Carre of Cavers, born 1708, married first in 1743 Jane, daughter of Alexander Reid, Captain of Dragoons, and by her, who died 1755, had - 1. John, 2. Alexander, 3. Elizabeth born 1750, married 12 January 1776, William Riddell of Camieston, Co. Roxburgh, whose father was a younger son of Sir Walter Riddell, Baronet. 4. Janet, born 1751, February 12, died young. Mr. Carre died 4th August 1766, having married secondly in 1763, Jean only daughter of Sir Walter Riddell of that Ilk, Bart. who died 28 August 1807 and was succeeded by his eldest son.
Cavers Carre is a house in the parish of Bowden in Roxburghshire. It stands alone in its lands to the north of the Ale Water. Bowden itself is two and a half miles to the north, and a couple of miles to the west and south-west are the little villages of Midlem and Lillesleaf.
