"John appears to be the oldest child who survived the trip to Ohio.Although, it has been assumed that the entire family moved to Ohio atthe same time, indications are that John and his wife Christina didnot accompany his parents, but did join them a few years later. Johnoriginally built a cabin on his fathers land after arriving in Ohio, but around 1810, he and his family moved northward from HamiltonCounty and settled in Orange Township, Shelby County. They returnedto Hamilton County, Ohio after living there a short time, because ofIndian troubles in the area. Both John and his eldest son Jeremiahserved about six months in the War of 1812. In 1818, John along withhis wife and family, consisting of six sons and four daughters, returned to Shelby Co. and again settled in Orange Township where hiswife Christine died a short time after. After the death of his firstwife, John married Susanna Evans on Jan. 20, 1820 in Miami County, but settled on the Redenbaugh farm in Orange Township where John wasburied on August 17, 1847."
