  • Notes
    • Eliza A. Elkins is the daughter of James & Mary Polly A. ReynoldsElkins of Kentucky & Indiana. She married Franklin Hamilton(descendant of James L. McHaffey Hamilton) on 24 April 1850 in JacksonCounty, Indiana. The couple lived in Jackson, Parke, and PutnamCounties, Indiana. It is believed that Eliza stayed with her motherthrough her young years until her marriage to Franklin Hamilton, resulting in six known children, Charles E., Mary, Winifred M., AltaQ., Arizona J., and Otto Hamilton; Even so, Mary Polly A. ReynoldsElkins Graham (Eliza's mother) stayed near the Hamilton's over theyears prior to her death, as evidenced by the census records showingher living with the Hamilton's at one time in the 1870 Federal censusin Indiana. The three families, Elkins, Grahams, and Hamilton's, wereclosely allied over the years from beginnings in Kentucky throughyears together in Indiana; even living and being buried near eachother in Russell Township, Putnam County, Indiana in Mount Pisgah &Russellville Cemeteries. "This is what I have so far. Much more research is needed on thefamily for completion.
Indiana research on the Internet web site: www.Ancestry.com
1). Eliza (Elkins) Hamilton probably died in 1869 in Russell Twp,Putnam County, and is probably buried there at the Mt. PisgahCemetery. She left Franklin with six children, and is not in the 1870census record.
2). Franklin Hamilton has disappeared in the census records after theyear 1900. He never remarried. There are no obituary nor deathrecords available on the web site for him. It is highly likely thatthe Frank listed on Mother's records in Mt. Pisgah Cemetery-RussellTwp, Putnam County is accurate. This is the twp. and county whereEliza died, and he probably was buried there. Franklin probably diedin Putnam County while living with his daughter Alta and her husbandGeorge Proctor (1900 Census Record).
3). Otto Hamilton never marries and disappears in the census recordsafter 1910. In 1910 he was living with his brother and his childrenin Rockville, Parke County, Indiana. Otto probably died there aswell. However, I'm not certain as to where he was buried. There areno obituary records nor death records available on the web site forhim.
4). Charles is living in Rockville with his children, Parke Countyalong with his brother Otto. His wife has died previous to the 1910census. Charles E. Hamilton could not be found after the 1910Census.
5). Mary Hamilton is 2 years old in the 1860 census, but is not listedin the 1870 census with the rest of the children. Mary was the secondoldest child. The oldest child, Charles was still at home in 1870,and if Mary had been there with the rest of the children, she wouldhave been 12 years old. Mary was too young for marriage, so since sheis not in the 1870 census with the rest of the family, she probablyhas died. I cannot find a marriage record on her either.
6). Winifred M. Hamilton marries James M. Miller 20 Dec 1882 inPutnam County, Indiana.
7). Arizona Hamilton marries William A. Scott in 25 Feb 1886 inPutnam County, Indiana.
8). Alta Q. Hamilton marries George Proctor 10 Mar 1881 in PutnamCounty, Indiana. A son George was added by a birth record to thethree children known of in the 1900 census. Franklin Hamilton andOtto Hamilton are living with this couple in the 1900 census forRussell Township, Putnam County, Indiana."
