"Died, in Virginia Township, this county, June 1st 1875, after alongandpainful illness, Daniel Norris, aged 80 years, 4 months, and21days.Father Norris was born in the State of Virginia, January 10th1795,andwith his parents removed to this county in the year 1809,andhascontinued with us over seventy years in this part of Ohio. Formanyyearshe was prominent as a Captain of a Cavalry Company in thiscounty, andwas in many ways prominent in the history of this locality. He was baptised into the fellowship of the Millfork Baptist Church inMarch,1841, of which he remained a member until his death."

      Per Gregg Branum, gw2g@aol.com:

"Daniel Norris and William Norris, Jr. married sisters, daughtersofJoseph McCoy. Later their sister Nancy would marry the sameJosephMcCoy(the brothers' father-in-law). The family relationsinvolved herecan bequite confusing. The early families of CoshoctonCo., OH seemed tohaveintermarried to a great extent."

In the Virginia Township chapter of "The History of CoshoctonCounty"byN. N. Hill (1881) the story reads as follows:

"Joseph Wright and Joseph McCoy came together into thetownship,December24, 1806. Mr. McCoy settled upon the southwestquarter ofsectiontwenty-five -- the southwest corner of the township-- where heliveduntil he died. Joseph Wright was his son-in-law[husband ofElizabeth],and had one child, Willis, when he came to thecounty. Bothwere fromVirginia. Mr. Wright lived with his father-on-lawone year, thenmovedfurther up the creek to lot 3, where he livedduring the remainderof hislife. He died April 1, 1867, at the age ofeighty-seven years."

"James Norris, also from Virginia, came in 1807, and settleduponthesouthwest quarter of section 14. The next year hisbrothers,Joseph,Daniel, and William, and his father, William Norrismoved out. Thelattersettled upon the southeast corner of section 14.Joseph occupiedlot 16,just above. Joseph and James married sisters ofJoseph Wright,inVirginia. Daniel and William, Jr., married daughtersof JosephMcCoy.These three families, the Wrights, Norrises, andMcCoys, haveintermarried in this township to a considerable extent, soas torenderit [virtually] impossible to determine the variousrelationships."

"I have attempted using various sources, includingfamilyhistoriescompiled by others, to piece together theserelationships asthey referto our family tree." [Transcribed 10 June2008, SLJuhl, Compiler]
